Last 30 Days of Class 12 Chemistry: a Revision Order That Works
Thirty days is enough for a substantial improvement, provided nothing new is started.

In the final month the goal changes from learning to securing. Revise what is nearly there rather than attacking what was never learned, keep inorganic on a daily drip because it decays fastest, and put the remaining time into full papers. Starting a new chapter in the last thirty days is almost always a worse use of the hours than consolidating three that are half-secure.

The order that works
Days 1 to 10 — the near-misses
Chapters the student half-knows. These convert to reliable marks fastest because most of the work is already done. Identify them from the last two papers rather than from feeling.
Days 11 to 22 — papers and the error log
A full paper roughly every three days, marked strictly, with every error added to a single list sorted by type. The list, not the scores, is the product of this phase.
Days 23 to 30 — the error log and inorganic
Work only on the recurring errors, plus daily inorganic recall. No new material at all. This is also when the practical file and viva should be finalised if they are not already.
Inorganic needs daily contact through all thirty days. Fifteen minutes of writing from a blank page, every day, from day one. It is the strand that decays fastest and the one students plan to do "at the end" — which is exactly the wrong treatment for recall-heavy material.
What to stop doing
- Starting a chapter never studied. Thirty days is not enough to learn it well and the hours are better spent elsewhere.
- Reading notes. Recognition, not retrieval. It feels productive and does very little.
- Switching to a new reference book. Familiarity is worth more than coverage at this point.
- Long unbroken study sessions. Retrieval works better in shorter, spaced blocks, and stamina is better trained by full papers.
What parents can do
Protect sleep and protect the routine, and resist the urge to add anything. A student in the last month generally needs fewer inputs rather than more — a new tutor, a new book or an extra class at this stage usually costs more in disruption than it adds.
The most useful question to ask is not "how much did you study" but "what did you get wrong today, and what type of error was it".
The realistic expectation
Thirty focused days move a student meaningfully — securing near-misses and cutting repeated errors typically produces a visible improvement. They do not transform a student who has not engaged all year, and a plan built on that hope tends to collapse in week two.
Questions parents ask
Should we bring in extra tuition for the last month?
Usually not a new tutor. More sessions with the existing one, aimed at the error log, are more useful than a new voice with no history.
My child wants to start a chapter they skipped.
If it is high-weight and genuinely near-miss, perhaps. If it was never studied, the same hours spent on near-misses will produce more marks.
How many full papers in the last month?
Eight to ten is realistic and sufficient, provided each one is marked and acted on.
Is it too late to fix presentation?
No — presentation is the fastest thing to fix and can be substantially improved in a fortnight of strict marking.
